Re-sharpening of Squeegee

LC  squeegee is recognized as being able to be re-sharpened to a high standard. However it must be remembered that one of polyurethane's greatest properties is resistance to abrasion and cutting, therefore patience and care is always needed when re-sharpening. It is most important to allow a used blade to rest in a warm ventilated area before re-sharpening; this allows any residual solvent to be released from the blade and improve the finish of re-sharpening.
Some squeegee re-sharpening system has been designed specifically to provide a high quality, re-sharpened cut square edge to polyurethane squeegees.
Abrasive grinding re-sharpening methods are able to achieve an acceptable re-sharpened edge for some printing applications. The squeegee should always be advanced perpendicular to the grinding belt or wheel in a very smooth and slow motion using very little pressure. Higher quality polyurethane will be more resistive to this type of re-sharpening, therefore less material should be attempted to be removed per pass and less pressure should be applied.
Harder durometer squeegee are easier to re-sharpen than softer durometer squeegee.
Normally the squeegee factory can supply the squeegee with sharp blade-edge. The squeegee blade-edge produced in LC is smooth, flat and sharp. But after using, it still needs to grind. After using a period of time, the blade-edge of squeegee begins wearing. Finally, because of the increase of wearing degree, the following tiny phenomenon may occur:

1. Blade-edge begins to change round. The printing ink of printed matter becomes thick gradually.
2. Because of the friction relation with screen, after the sharp angle disappears and becomes round, the squeegee may seem to "get across the surface of printing ink instead of spreading the ink as usual on screen. This kind of phenomenon is common to print with poster, water-based printing ink, the textile printing, etc.
3. Because the printing ink of high aggressiveness has been used, the squeegee begins to expand and has the phenomenon of dilapidation.
4. Possibly because the pressure of regulating squeegee is not even or sensitization sticky membrane is of bad distribution, the condition of local damage will be produced. The simplest and direct method is to sharp the blade-edge again. There are many kinds of ways to sharp the squeegee blade. But approximately it can be divided into two types: The first type is cutting method while the second type is grinding method.
